Baguette or French Bread

 I never thought French bread could be this easy.

 


 

Yeast, 1 teaspoon, approx 6 gm

Flour, 3 - 4 cups

Salt, 1 teaspoon

Water, one and half cups

Cornmeal for dusting

 

Mix together, flour, salt, yeast and water.

The mixture should hold together in a shaggy ball.

Cover and leave to rise up to two hours. 

Use flour dusted hands to cut into four pieces.

Roll each piece into a long loaf shape. Dust baking sheet with cornmeal.

Set the loaves on the cornmeal and use a sharp knife to make diagonal slashes.

Let rise until doubled; or approximately two hours.

Heat oven to 400F

Bake for 20 minutes (to the colour you like).
